Other Research
Not cleanly fitting into one of the research categorizations, I have also been involved in a few projects that are outside my purview of expertise. That being said I have led a study analyzing civic engagement among college students, assisted a project on cancer epidemiology of breast cancer survivors, and am working a project contextualizing racial formation, race science history, and the reemergence of biological superiority by White Supremacists and Race Realists.
Featured Publications
Cancer Epidemiology
We found significant racial and socio-economic disparities in breast cancer treatment and outcomes. Black patients received more breast cancer surgery, but fewer mastectomies than other racial groups, and experienced more in-hospital deaths, post-surgical complications and longer hospital stays compared with White women regardless of treatment received and number of comorbidities. Civic Attitudes
Our results indicated an overall positive attitude and self-report of civic skills resulting from students’ participation in the service learning course. Team Dynamics however did seem to impact future civic participation intention with poor team dynamics reducing motivation to be civically active in the future. Click here for the PDF.
Biologizing Identity
Currently a working paper, I contextualized racial formation, race science, and current uses of Genetic Testing to biologize identity (namely through genetic ancestral testing). An unintended consequence of this technology has been a reinvigoration of the assertion of biological difference and White supremacy. Come back soon for a copy of the paper (as it hopefully will be published soon).
